The District Nursing Service provides nursing and midwifery support to Gannawarra Shire Community members. Office location is in the Allied Health Building at Kerang District Health.

Domiciliary Midwifery

New mothers are offered support and advice by our community midwives. 

Services offered are: 

  • lactation advice and support
  • postnatal monitoring and education
  • parent craft education.

Palliative Care

Is offered in the home to support patients and their families with their end of life choices, keeping them as comfortable and pain free as possible during the end stages of life.

Wound care

Individual assessment and treatment as needed.

WD Thomas Day Centre & Planned Activity Group

The WD Thomas Day Centre & Planned Activity Group provide a suitable and varied program to older people and people with a disability in the community. 

These programs are designed to maintain and enhance the social, emotional, intellectual and physical wellbeing of the clients and to assist them to maintain their independence. 

The service aims to meet the needs of each individual and provide a varied program, promote freedom of choice and provide physically active activities to enhance mobility and confidence.

Welfare Services

Post Acute Care             

Day Centre program operates Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Planned Activity Group operates on Tuesday and Thursday.

Men’s Group outing on the first Monday of the month.

Physiotherapy and Allied Health operate from the Day Centre also.

Strength building, mobility maintenance & enhancement exercise program: Rural Allied Health Team Physiotherapy assessment is undertaken prior to commencement of the programs with individual programming for each participant. Clients are assisted by Vic Fit trained instructor and Allied Health Assistants. Tai Chi sessions run each Tuesday and Thursday.

Men’s Shed: Is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. All men are welcome who are interested in activities, comradeship and a chance to learn. This program provides for health and wellbeing through socialisation and activity including woodcraft, metal working, photography, computer skills training and outings.

Community Garden: Located in Burgoyne Street near the Men’s Shed.

Community Kitchen: The community kitchen allows people to come together, shop for food, prepare a meal and eat socially together.

Pulmonary Rehab: Caters for people with chronic pulmonary disease and cardiac failure. The program is activated on a needs basis to enhance the lifestyle and fitness level of participants.

Needle & Syringe Program: Assists in reducing the risk of HIV and Hep B and C in our community. Packs are available from the dispensing machine in front of the hospital.

Diabetes: Monitoring and education information including stabilisation.

Continence: Assessment, education and support.
